Responsible Care Guiding Principles

Members of the European Association for Chemical Distributors are committed to the 8 Guiding Principles:

1 · Legal requirements

Members must conform to all relevant regulations and requirements and operate in accordance with both government and industry codes of practice and guidance appropriate to their chemical activities.

2 · Management of risk

Members must assess and manage the risks associated with their activities to ensure a high level of protection for employees, contractors, customers, the public and the environment.

3 · Policies and documentation

Each member company should have documented policies and management systems consistent with the principles of Responsible Care.

4 · Provision of information

Members must provide relevant health, safety and environmental information to contractors, customers, statutory bodies and the public.

5 · Training

Members should provide all employees with information, instruction and training to ensure they understand their responsibilities and their contribution towards the achievement of health, safety and environmental objectives.

6 · Emergency response

Members should establish and maintain appropriate emergency response systems.

7 · Ongoing improvements

Each member company should support and participate in activities to improve its health, safety and environmental performance.

8 · Community interaction

Members should be aware and respond to community concerns relating to their activities and those of the industry.
